Celebrity | Christy Martin Inside the Attempted Murder of Boxer Christy Martin Husband had been utterly dependent on his wife By Kevin Spak Posted Dec 17, 2010 11:57 AM CST Copied FILE - This Dec. 6, 2002, file photo shows Christy Martin, left, during a boxing match against Mia St. John, at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich. (AP Photo/John F. Martin, File) Christy Martin’s husband helped launch her career, and spent 20 years as her trainer and manager. But by the time she left him to be with her female lover last month, Jim Martin was completely dependent on Christy, friends tell the Daily Beast. He never took his diabetes medicine until she made him, and relied on the money she brought it. The night she left, he “woke up and went crazy,” Christy told police. He called the hotel she was staying at incessantly, threatening to release incriminating photos and videos of her. “Jim, that motherf***er, is going to shoot me,” Christy told one friend. Three hours later, when she returned home, he allegedly tried to do just that, and successfully stabbed her. Christy escaped, probably with the help of her pink 9mm, and flagged down a car to take her to the hospital screaming, “He stabbed me!” over and over.
