On Saturday, Fernando Brazier married longtime girlfriend Trudian Hay. The next morning, he walked out of their hotel and threw himself into the Harlem River, where he was found dead that afternoon. Hay found a note from him at the front desk, along with his wedding ring. “He said [in the note] he couldn’t take it anymore, and to take care of the kids,” Brazier’s sister tells the New York Post. Brazier, 28, and Hay, 26, had been dating since they were teenagers and had two young daughters together.
Brazier had been depressed and had recently gone to counseling with Hay, his sister says. “He would tell me that Trudy is a good person, [but] he didn’t want to marry her; he was feeling like he was pressured.” But he wanted his kids raised in one home, unlike the upbringing he experienced. “He always said, ‘Certain things, you have to do,’” recalls his brother. His mother insists that at the wedding reception, he was dancing and happy. But his aunt recalls asking him before the ceremony if he wanted to go through with it: “He said, ‘It’s too late now.’” (More wedding stories.)
