The New York Mets' roster acquired a new member last week, but he's not too good with a glove. After a teammate called the Yankees "chickens," appropriately-named pitcher Tim Byrdak bought the team a pet chicken for luck ahead of a series against the Yanks. Unfortunately, it wasn't in the cards for the fowl dubbed "Little Jerry Seinfeld:" The Mets lost two games to the Bronx Bombers, the New York Post notes.
"Put it on the front page: Not bad for a bunch of chickens," said Yankee Nick Swisher. But if things didn't work out for the Mets, at least they did for the chicken. After hanging out in the Mets' clubhouse, he's now headed for a sanctuary instead of a stovetop—thanks to a fan's suggestion on Twitter. "We really didn’t think the whole process through of actually having a live chicken and what we were going to do afterwards," Byrdak said. "So we decided we needed to find a home for this thing real quick." (More New York Mets stories.)
