Cops Nab 5 in Mexico Tourist Rapes

Mexican police have arrested five suspects in the alleged gang-rape of six Spanish tourists in Acapulco. There are seven total suspects in the attack, says the leader of fifty investigators on the case; the suspects are all between 20 and 30 years old. The arrested suspects' family members are protesting over a lack of information about the arrests, CNN notes.

The attackers also stole electronics and sneakers from the victims and their companions, who included seven men and a Mexican woman, authorities say. "She has said that she identified herself to the men and asked them not to rape her," an official said. "They told her that she had 'passed the test' by being Mexican, and from that point they don't touch her." Members of the tourist group are believed to have bought drugs the day before from the attackers, whom they knew, authorities note.
