Because really, who hasn't been tempted to boycott the Sunshine State in its entirety? Stevie Wonder started it last week, when he announced he was done with Florida in protest of George Zimmerman's acquittal and the state's controversial "Stand Your Ground" law. Until the law is "abolished ... I will never perform there again," and that goes for any state that has a similar law, he said, according to NBC News. Now more celebrities are joining the boycott, sources close to Wonder tell April Ryan of American Urban Radio Networks. Her list includes such big names as Madonna, Usher, Kanye West, Rod Stewart, Jay Z, the Rolling Stones, Justin Timberlake, and Rihanna, but other outlets have conflicting reports.
For example, WPLG Miami reports that a planned Jay Z-Justin Timberlake concert is still happening in the state on August 16, citing an executive affiliated with the tour, and a source tells the Huffington Post that Rihanna is not participating in the boycott. But even if all those big names are getting on board, will it make a difference? Check out The Week for the answer. (More Jay Z stories.)
