Cops in New Haven, Connecticut, are probing the mysterious death of a Yale professor after his arrest in a domestic dispute. Samuel See, 34, was found dead around 6am Sunday after spending the night in a jail cell, and police say they do not believe he committed suicide, reports NBC Connecticut. Before he was sent to the detention center, he had been treated for a minor injury sustained in a dispute with his estranged husband, who had arrived at his home to collect belongings despite both men having protective orders against each other.
When See was reminded of the protective order, "he yelled that it was his house and that he shouldn't be arrested. See fought with Officers when they tried handcuffing him," a police spokesman says. "As See was led to a police car, he yelled to one of the arresting officers, 'I will kill you ... I will destroy you.'" See, who specialized in British and American modernist literature, was on leave this semester. The department's chair describes him as a "committed teacher and an innovative scholar with a sparkling intelligence and an open, generous heart," the Yale Daily News reports.
