Ted Cruz's 2016 chances are looking good if this is the best dirt anyone can dig up on him: The GOP's new chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Science, Space, and Competitiveness was apparently a member of the Beer Run Subcommittee in high school, according to public records unearthed by BuzzFeed. In his 2003 application to become Texas solicitor general, Cruz revealed that as a 17-year-old high school senior, he was ticketed for possession of alcohol as a minor after he was pulled over and a case of beer was found in his trunk.

"Teenagers often make foolish mistakes, and that certainly applied to me as well," he tells BuzzFeed. Under the hashtag #TedCruzCrimes, Twitter users have suggested other possible dark deeds in the senator's past, including "Double-dipped his chip" and "Was not kind: Did not rewind," Bustle reports.
