An NBC exec says the anchor, who's on hiatus amid questions over Iraq and Hurricane Katrina stories, decided to pull out of the Letterman appearance because it's not clear when he will return to NBC Nightly News. In 2013, Williams appeared on Letterman's show and shared his false story about being in a helicopter that was hit by RPG fire in Iraq, Mediaite reports.
