Hours after being sworn in with the East Pittsburgh Police Department, Officer Michael Rosfeld shot Antwon Rose. Now the cop has been charged in connection with the June 19 killing. Philly.com reports Rosfeld appeared in City Court in Pittsburgh Wednesday to face one count of criminal homicide. He next has a July 6 hearing. Rose suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the back while fleeing a car Rosfeld had pulled over; it matched the description of one seen at the scene of a drive-by shooting in North Braddock. TribLive reports the eight-page criminal complaint describes interviews with six witnesses, two of whom said the two teens who ran from the car obviously had nothing in their hands.

In the complaint, the detectives describe conflicting statements from Rosfeld, who originally said the fleeing front passenger had "something dark" in his hand "that [he] perceived as a gun." But when going through the details a second time, "Rosfeld told the detectives that he did not see a gun when the passenger emerged and ran. When confronted with this inconsistency, Rosfeld stated he saw something in the passenger's hand but was not sure what it was." In addition, Rosfeld stated he "was not certain if the individual who had his arm pointed at him was still pointing at him when he fired the shots." The car's driver wasn't charged, per USA Today, but Zaijuan Hester, 17, who also fled, was charged Wednesday with attempted homicide in relation to that drive-by, reports WPXI.
