A Montreal man has his sister to thank for his sudden windfall—the equivalent of $1.32 million, the CBC reports. Urged by his sister to finally clean out his wardrobe, Gregorio De Santis found a Lotto 6/49 ticket dated Dec. 6, 2017 in an old jacket and took it in to be validated. "I would never have looked in that wardrobe without her," he says. He initially thought the ticket was worth $1,750 when it was scanned on a machine, then realized he'd really won $1.75 million Canadian, per Inquisitr.
De Santis says his heart nearly stopped when he realized the real value, reports the Montreal Gazette. Now, the obvious question: How to spend it? De Santis modestly says he plans to bolster his retirement fund and may see extra hockey games with his nephew. "Perhaps it was the excitement of the moment," says AFP, "but De Santis made no reported mention of any thank-you gift for his clever sister." (More lottery winner stories.)
