Sports Owners Put Their Money on McCain

Hollywood money may be filling Barack Obama’s coffers, but sports-owners’ cash is overwhelmingly going to John McCain. The presumptive GOP nominee has raked in $3.2 million raised or donated by sports owners, while Obama has drummed up only $615,000, Politico reports. Even in Chicago, Obama’s hometown, McCain took in six times more than Obama from local team owners.

Some sports owners who generally fund the Democrats—the bosses of the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Knicks, for example—haven’t given to Obama (though some gave to Hillary Clinton). But “I don’t think there’s any correlation between being a sports owner and supporting John McCain,” says the owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. “I think there’s a correlation between being a businessman and supporting John McCain.”
