The Washington state father sought in the murder of his three young daughters might now be dead, authorities say. Police have been searching for Travis Decker since June 2 when the girls were found asphyxiated at a campsite outside Leavenworth alongside Decker's abandoned truck. The girls' mother, Whitney Decker, said her ex was struggling with mental health issues when he picked them up for what should have been a three-hour visit on May 30. Decker was "weird" that day, a neighbor of the family tells People, noting he was thinner than usual, with long hair and a beard, and "a sad face." He also seemed distracted, asking the neighbor how he'd been three times.

Decker had allegedly performed an online search for "how to relocate to Canada" in the days before he vanished, per People. There was a possible sighting of him a couple weeks ago at a trailhead south of Leavenworth, where backcountry trails connect to the Pacific Crest Trail, running from Mexico to Canada, per the AP. But authorities now say the Army veteran with survivalist skills may be dead, rather than in Canada. "There is no certain evidence that Decker remains alive or in this area," the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office said this week, per the AP. That Decker died in the wilderness "is a possibility that increases every day," it continued, noting the search would shift to finding Decker's remains, with cadaver dogs taking part. The US Marshals Service is continuing the search outside Kittitas County.
