Soriano Out for as Long as a Month

Alfonso Soriano could be out for a month with a strained quad, and that could hit the Cubs hard. While Mets fans celebrated Tom Glavine's 300th victory, the Cubs nation bit their nails over the fate of the star—who strained his muscle so badly during a pull-up between second and third he had to hop to base on one foot before being thrown out. "It's going to be a tough loss," Lou Piniella says.

But Derrek Lee says that Soriano's injury won't end the Cubs' season like his own broken wrist did last year. "We can't use it as an excuse. We're right in this, so we've got to keep it going," he says. Piniella says he isn't sure who will take Soriano's spot in left field for the time being.
