House Dems' Health Plan Half the Cost of Bush Tax Cuts

The House Democrats’ health care plan would cost just half of what President Bush’s tax cuts cost the country, a report by left-leaning researchers says. While the analysts project Bush’s cuts will cost $2.1 trillion in lost revenue over the 10 years since they were enacted, the Congressional Budget Office says the Dems’ plan will cost $1 trillion over its first decade, the Huffington Post reports.

“Many of the lawmakers who argue that the health care reform legislation is 'too costly' are the same lawmakers who supported the Bush tax cuts,” says the report. “Their own voting record demonstrates that health care reform is not a matter of costs, but a matter of priorities." That includes GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who have slammed the cost of the health plan, and both voted for the Bush tax cuts.
