Freddy Sanchez' second-inning bases-loaded triple yesterday propelled a Pirates victory over the Cubs, 10-5. The loss allowed Milwaukee to take sole possession of first place in a congested, bumbling National League Central that Chicago had led since August 17. Call-up outfielder Nyjer Morgan continued to impress with three RBIs and a circus catch.

"Look, this loss isn't life or death," said Chicago manager Lou Piniella, who tried to downplay the result. "We're behind, I understand. One game in the standings? If we play well enough, we'll have a chance to get back on top. If we don't, it's not going to matter."
