Politics | Washington Post ABC poll Poll Backs Hill-Bill White House Sen. Clinton extends lead over Giuliani By Peter Fearon Posted Oct 4, 2007 7:40 AM CDT Copied Republican presidential hopeful, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani shakes hands during a campaign stop at the Red Arrow Diner in Manchester, N.H., Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007.(AP Photo/Jim Cole) (Associated Press) Former president Bill Clinton is a clear asset in his wife's bid for the White House, the Washington Post reports, with 60% of Americans polled last week saying they would welcome him as first spouse, and two-thirds giving his presidency the thumbs-up. But they don't see Hillary Clinton as a continuation of Bill: two-thirds said they thought she'd take the country in a different direction than her husband did. That's just some of the poll's good news for the Clintons. A hypothetical matchup between Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani shows the senator leading the former mayor 51% to 43%. When the Post-ABC News poll last tested the two against each other in January the race was a toss up, with Clinton at 49% and Giuliani at 47%. Women support Clinton 57% to 39%.
