The actor was laid to rest in New Mexico, where he first went in 1969 while scouting locations for Easy Rider and lived for 12 years. Nicholson, who acted alongside Hopper in Easy Rider, called him “an all-around guy,” the AP reports. “It was a very singular relationship I had with him, like nobody else. We were soulmates in a way. I really miss him,” Nicholson continued. Henry Lee Hopper, Dennis’ 19-year-old son, read from Leaves of Grass and recalled his father as one of the “very, very few people in this world” who fight for what they believe in “from the day they’re born to the day they go out.” Read These Next A space capsule carrying ashes of 160 people crashed in the ocean.
