Support for Incumbents Dips to All-Time Low

It’s a bad time to be an incumbent, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good time to be allied with a far-right protest movement. In a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, only 29% of Americans say they plan to vote for their current House representative in November—an all-time low eclipsing even the readings before the 1994 Republican wave.

That bodes poorly for the Democratic majority, but Republicans shouldn’t celebrate yet. The poll also shows growing disapproval of the Tea Party movement, with half having an unfavorable view of it. The GOP fared even worse; 60% said they viewed Republican policy ideas negatively, and only a third say they trusted Republicans more than Democrats to handle the nation’s problems.
