Stars Slip Past Blue Jackets in Shootout 2-1

Mike Smith protected the Dallas Stars' record last night, making 33 saves in the 2-1 overtime win against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Smith needed to be on form because his team hasn't been covering the net, according to coach Dave Tippett. "We're playing not to lose instead of playing desperate," captain Brenden Morrow told the Dallas Morning News.

The Stars started out last night's game with 8 shots to Columbus' 17 in the first period, before gaining the momentum to tie the game on Morrow's wrister with 1:11 remaining. Smith blocked all three Blue Jackets tries during the shootout, and Jussi Jokinen slipped one in to improve the Stars' shootout record to 22-5.
