Politics | Sunday morning talk shows Blago: I'll Be Back Just as soon as all these pesky trials go away By Polly Davis Doig Posted Aug 22, 2010 12:44 PM CDT Copied Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell addresses the annual meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures in Louisville, Ky., Monday, July 26, 2010. (AP Photo/Ed Reinke) Rod Blagojevich isn't about to let a little thing like a corruption trial jettison his political career any more than he's about to have a droopy hair day, reports Politico. "I'm not ruling myself out from coming back because because I will be vindicated in this case," he tells Fox News Sunday. "Do I believe there's a potential political comeback ... When I'm vindicated in this case, absolutely I do." He denounced his legal woes as "criminalized politics." Elsewhere on the Sunday dial: Only "a complete failure" of Iraqi security forces would necessitate US combat troops again in Iraq, Gen. Ray Odierno says. "If the election were tomorrow, we'd have a very good day," says Mitch McConnell, noting 12 Democratic Senate seats in play. But while he's "optimistic," there are "70-some days between now and the election." Also, birth certificates aside, McConnell dismissed theories that President Obama is Muslim: “The president says he's a Christian. I take him at his word." Hamid Karzai defended his decision to boot private security contractors, accusing them of everything from "wasting billions" to "looting and stealing" and "funding insurgents and terrorists."
